Nijhuis Industries installs innovative modular wastewater solution in a record period of time

Nijhuis Industries has built and installed a complete wastewater treatment solution in just six weeks – this is thought to be a record in the industry and opens up many possibilities for clients with tight deadlines.  The solution was delivered for Umalat, a modern cheese production plant in Russia and one of the leading producers of fresh cheese from Caucasian type to Italian mozzarella. On 29 August 2017, Umalat held the official opening ceremony of the new wastewater treatment system at the factory in the town of Sevsk which is south-west of Moscow. The plant was officially opened by Aleksandr Bogomaz, the Governor of Bryansk area.  Also present was Aleksandr Kurakin, the head of local authorities as well as other local officials and the local and federal press.

Official opening ceremony

The outdoor press conference began with the presentation of the Nijhuis MODULUTIONS system to the representatives from the media. Nijhuis Industries representatives Emiel Koster and Sergey Elizarov explained how the system works and highlighted all the customer benefits of the wastewater treatment plant.

The official ceremony included the ribbon cutting by the general shareholder of Umalat Aleksey Martynenko and the Governor, followed by the visit to the modular plant building.  The efficiency of the plant operation was provided by an impressive demonstration of influent and effluent samples and dewatered sludge.

Plug-and-play and fast-track solution, ready for the future
The plug-and-play and fast-track solution allowed Umalat to realize a state of the art wastewater treatment plant in a record period of time: simple, compact and pre-installed on the frame blocks at the Nijhuis production facility in the Netherlands. The complete modular system consists of a filter, flocculation, flotation and dewatering screw, all installed in eight box-frames which are used to create the wastewater treatment operations building. The plant has the capacity to treat 700 m3 of wastewater per day, which ensures that the wastewater treatment plant is future-proofed for increases in the amount of wastewater as a result of expected production increases in the factory.

Set a norm to all Russian dairy plants
Aleksey Martynenko emphasized in his speech: “The new wastewater treatment plant is a key milestone and a step forward in the development of our company. This should set a norm to all dairy plants to install the wastewater treatment plant of the highest level. We are happy to launch the WWTP in the Russian ‘Year of Ecology’.”

Umalat has already invited Nijhuis Industries to develop a proposal to design and built the biological treatment plant, the next step in the process.  This second stage will be taken forward during the second half of 2017.
