Inspiring solutions in integrating urban design and water challenges

Afdrukken

From 31 October to 1 November 2011 experts and professionals like Phil Askew of the London Olympic Delivery Authority 2012, will gather in Science Centre NEMO Amsterdam for the second edition of the conference ‘Water Cities in Transition, Inspiring solutions in integrating urban design and water challenges’, as part of the ‘International Water Week Amsterdam’. Nowadays, cities cope with a broad spectrum of challenges to maintain a good quality of life, be an appealing and economically healthy place and deal with demographic challenges. Moreover, cities are also challenged with a wide range of water challenges as flood defence, dealing with stormwater, aging infrastructure and ecological stress.

During this event, urban planners and water managers together focus on the latest developments in water city transitions; coping with climate-change related challenges, linking them with socioeconomic issues and inspiring integrated solutions in urban design and practices.

International key note speakers will address and elucidate current water challenges in urban areas from different points of view. Our key note speakers are: Mark Fletcher (Arup), Christian Günner, (Hamburg Wasser), Phil Askew (London Olympic Delivery Authority 2012), Barbara Anton (ICLEI), and Wolfgang Rauch (University of Innsbrück).

Worldwide the need for integrated innovative solutions and new governance concepts increases. In open space sessions a selection of best practices will be presented and discussed. Through excursions and interactive (field) design workshops, participants will get involved in actual cases. The design workshops consist of a creative part where scenarios are worked up (how will it look like) and international experiences will be exchanged. For these design workshops we are looking for reflection and best practices from other cities and deltas.

Please join us during this 2-day event to engage in the discussions with other international professionals and gain new insights, strategies and best practices on integrated solutions concerning water challenges in urban areas.
